To JLPT Or Not to JLPT? Part 2

We’re back to talking about the JLPT, a topic which we left off on the first part of this series, which you can read here. The first part explored some of the shortcomings of the JLPT, and gave reasons why one may not see the JPLT as a relevant qualification. In Part 2, we’ll talk about why you may want to strongly consider taking the JLPT after all. Let’s get right to it! 🙂

Pardon My Engrish

The ultimate goal of every language learner is to be capable of carrying on a conversation with a native speaker of that language in that language but before achieving this, plenty of mistakes will be made, with the most common being poor or incorrect grammar and pronunciation (or accent). Unintentionally, these mistakes end up corrupting the language. Sometimes, achieving fluency is not possible because one’s native accent takes over and corrupts the language anyway despite all efforts made not to do so. Being an English speaker, I find it absolutely hilarious when I encounter Engrish in anime and knowing how hard it can be to speak another language, it’s not the poor grammar or the accent that I find funny, it’s the use.

In a perfect world, Gillian would be travelling round the world in her red vintage VW T1 van (Hippie Van) gathering stories of the people she meets and retelling them to those ready to listen. She is in the process of building this world which is now going to have all of you in it.
