In our last post, we told you all about language cafés and how they are a fun way to practise speaking your target language. Well, we have some exciting news today! The Wondercores are proud to present the first ever Japanese language café in Kenya (that we know of)!
Mbithe’s ideal life would consist of an infinite loop of travelling to beautiful, idyllic locations with breathtaking views, amazing food, and nothing on her to-do list but relaxation and rejuvenation. Mbithe’s actual life involves a lot of proposals, research papers, and code, with just enough travel to make up for the rest of it.
The Wondercores participate in a lot of the events organised and held by the Embassy of Japan, Kenya. Our proudest moments were winning the 2014 Nodojiman Beauty Award and Mbithe winning this year’s Japanese Language speech contest (yay!). The events and competitions they hold are usually very interesting and lots of fun to either attend or participate in. We would really love it if you would all share in the fun so to that end, we shall do our very best to keep you updated on upcoming events and competitions.
The Embassy of Japan in Kenya, specifically the Japan Information and Culture Centre (JICC), are organising two events which I believe would be of great interest to all you Otakus out there.
In a perfect world, Gillian would be travelling round the world in her red vintage VW T1 van (Hippie Van) gathering stories of the people she meets and retelling them to those ready to listen. She is in the process of building this world which is now going to have all of you in it.
I was at the Rub-a-Dub event this Saturday. Rub-a-dub Nairobi is an event where different vendors set up stalls to sell their wares in one open space with a Dj and bands playing. It’s like a funky market place. Of all the stands that were on display, the stall that grabbed my attention, being the nihongo student that I am, was the Cheka Japanese Izakaya Restaurant.
Shikow is a student of the law, life and day dreams. A lover of adventure and good times, she takes delight in learning and creating new things. She is a beautiful letdown and painfully uncool.
